Airfinance Journal profiles the preferred buyers for the take-over of International Lease Finance Corporation

After six long months, three bidding rounds and US government involvement, a buyer has been selected for International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) in arguably the most important leasing acquisition ever.

Having defeated the consortium led by private equity firms Carlyle Group and T H Lee in the final round of bids, Onex and Greenbriar are now in exclusive talks.

The consortiumbetween the two private equity firms is thought to include other investors but it is unknown who they are. With Greenbriar’s aviation expertise and Onex’s deep pockets, they are as good candidates as any to take on ILFC’s balance sheet, which will need about $40 billion of refinancing over the next five years.
