Embraer scraps plans for larger aircraft

The Brazilian manufacturer will now focus on developing next generation regional jets.

Embraer has halted plans to develop a larger jet in the 130 to 160 seat market. Instead, the manufacturer says it plans to manufacture a next generation Ejet aircraft to be in service by 2018.
Speaking to journalists during a conference call, Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva, president, commercial aviation, Embraer, says the manufacturer will cease plans to develop a larger narrowbody given Airbus and Boeings decisions to re-engine their narrowbody products, new entrants and new products in the sector.
�Our decision is to no longer focus on the development of a larger jet, but rather focus on our current segment of Ejets and ensure we continue to be a leader in the 60 to 120 seat market,� says...
